I'm so sorry to hear that Ed died.
I've known him since I started going to the MacGroup meetings in
Middletown in 1995. He always graciously answered my questions.
His last words, felt so deeply, brought tears to my eyes. Thanks, Lee,
for sharing and for letting us know. I will, indeed, pray for him.

Those of us who attended the MacGroup meetings, or who have been
longtime readers of this forum, no doubt fondly remember Ed Stivers.
Ed died today.
I will miss Ed. Well into his 90s, he maintained his knowledgeable
interest in politics and enthusiasm for Macintosh computers until the
end. We had many rewarding conversations in person and via email. I
learned a lot from him.
Ed had his own email newsletter, sent daily to a group of friends and
relatives. Those of use who were on his mailing list looked forward to
seeing his GOOD DAY in our email boxes. You never knew what was in
store, but it was usually interesting and often very surprising. Here
is his last email to the list.
Farewell, dear friends…
By the time you read this, I will be reunited with my Lovely Lady for
all eternity. I have lived an amazing life, blessed with wonderful
friends and family, especially Bettie, the love of my life. Since
Bettie died, my family has surrounded me with all the love, attention,
and care that anyone could have. I cannot adequately express how much
I love them and assure them that they will remain in my prayers as I
ask to remain in theirs.
I want you to know that you, the faithful readers of my emails, are
also a part of the family that has so enriched my life. Your support,
comments, communications, encouragement, even your occasional
critiques, have meant the world to me and I will miss each of you in
such a special way. You, too, are a part of my going forth and I
promise to remember and pray for each of you as I ask to be remembered
and prayed for by you.
Fellow members of the many organizations in which I have been blessed
to be associated, most recently, Serra International, and the City
Sales Club, have become more than fellow members, you have become my
friends.
Chief among my many blessings, has been my Catholic faith. I thank my
mother and father for beginning a faith formation that has drawn me
closer to God; now that journey is over and I will come face to face
with my God. Please pray for me.
As I close this final email to you, I am reminded of a quote from a
little book, Illusions, by Richard Bach, that goes:
Don’t be dismayed at goodbyes;
A farewell is necessary before we can meet again,
And meeting again, in moments or in lifetimes,
Is certain for those who are friends.
Thank you for your friendship and love. I will never forget any of you.
