I don’t know about the Linksys version, but I helped install an Eero
<https://eero.com/> mesh several weeks ago in a big house and it worked really
well.

If you have a big house or one with impenetrable walls, a mesh or extender
would no doubt help get strong WiFi to the secret nooks and crannies. For most
people, with reasonably-sized homes, a centrally placed single unit is probably
just as good.

In my house, which is of normal size, I have a single router in a closet near
the center of the house and there are no signal problems anywhere. If I had to
put the router in a corner of the basement instead, I’d probably be thinking
about an extender or a mesh system.

It’s a current fad. During the last couple of years all the consumer-grade
router companies have come out with these mesh systems.

Yes it’s real. This is how the pros have been covering big venues for many
years. It’s well-tested technology that’s just now trickling down to the
consumer level.

It’s probably no less safe than any other router. All the traffic on the mesh
is encrypted.
