Hi, Richard, I ran into a similar situation on my Mac a week or two ago with a phony security alert. Most of the info I found online was for iPads, not a Mac, and here is one set of instructions for fixing the problem on an iPad:
Exit Safari by pressing the Home button; Go to Settings and enter Airplane Mode; Stay in Settings and go to Safari settings; Clear your browsing history and cookies; Reopen Safari and look for the fake warning message; If it is gone, then leave the Airplane Mode.
