This is an excerpt about Solar Eclipse viewing glasses from an article in the
courier last week.

Make sure your elicpse viewing glasses are safe.

Miss — We’re going to say it again just in case you’ve not gotten the message.
Don’t look directly at the sun during the upcoming solar eclipse without proper
eye protection.

Now, you also need to be smart about purchasing proper eye protection.

Like email scammers and phone scammers, now there are, what we’ll call, eclipse
scammers.

They’re making a buck or two off the eclipse, selling glasses that will not
protect your retinas. That puts your vision at risk because you’ll think you’re
protected.

Here’s a quick rule of thumb: You shouldn’t be able to see anything through a
safe solar filter except the sun itself or something comparably bright, such as
a halogen light bulb.
