I’ve written before about the wonders of Apple’s Photo’s, it’s an amazing piece of software for organizing your pictures.
The one drawback with Photos under Sierra was the faces method of categorizing people in your library… I had something like 24 people I was keeping a file, under each person were the photo’s that pertained to that person…BUT within the Faces section of the program were faces of EVERY person that had ever been in your photographs…even a stranger walking behind your shot will show up as a face for you to accept or reject… That was a very laborious process, going through thousands of people you don’t know to then find those you wish to add to their folder….I hadn’t completely gotten through the 21,000 + photo’s. I upgraded to High Sierra, the Mac was churning and churning, (from yesterday afternoon, all night until close to noon today) the hard drive was in constant movement. I opened Activity Monitor to find it was Photo’s that was doing all the work… When done I went to the faces and all 24 were there but there was no longer an option to go through all the faces to complete my job of finding those I wanted to keep. Dang, how do I now find those I hadn’t categorized? UREKA, all the work by the High Sierra version was meticulously going through all 21,000 photos and the program has now found all the folks automatically. I’ve recently added new photo’s and when I check that person’s file the new photo is there! I’ve checked many, they are all there…I’ve done several searches and the combinations work perfectly…I searched on pictures of two of my grandson’s, who are brothers…all photo’s with both of them are brought to me…I did several of these, WOW what a timesaver. So, what if there is someone new you want to add to the list of 24? On any photo highlighted full screen, click on the “information” icon at the top of the screen, a window opens and there is a place for you to “add a Face”. Once you do, and give the person a name now the program has another face to search and add photo’s with that person in them, no longer do you have to manually go face by face….. Apple has REALLY improved the organizational abilities of Photo’s, if you have ever wanted to get control of your memories and family members Photo’s will be hard to beat…of course the price is right as well..
