Some interesting info. The company is installing Fiber to all the agents offices, for my office they have been doing the outside work the past few weeks.
Today the AT&T tech spent a good bit of time explaining how all this works. If your a business the connection has to be from the Central Office, in our case that’s several miles to a large downtown building with floors of AT&T equipment, including fiber. The business connections, since coming from a Central Office, is not limited to 1 gig, the fiber can send whatever is cranked out from the connected machines. If the AT&T equipment could open the pipe with 50 gig, 100 gig, the fiber could handle. Upload speeds would depend on the equipment on our end, just how fast would the box in the office send the data…. Amazing, theoretically there is no limit. The glass is cheap to produce, it’s easy to maintain, they use special splicers to connect two ends to continue the run, it’s a machine that gets hot enough to melt glass, the loss of speed is unnoticed. The residential runs extend off nodes, large boxes placed every so many miles, the one that will connects my home is just over a mile away. Those speeds will max out at 1 gig, up and down. Finally 5g. AT&T has builds for fiber in our area two years out, once those are complete they will have to make a decision if they want to continue Fiber, as 5g will also be giving us 1 gig up and down. Currently they have small communities completely wired for 5g, they are using it as testing since none of the consumers have 5g phones but the biggest test is not the reliability or strength of the signal, but are people getting sick, having cancers? The 5g is pumping out a huge amount of strength to get the speed, what is that going to do to people living their lives, even if they don’t talk on their phones, even if they don’t own a phone they are still being exposed to the 5g waves of energy…I guess they want to try this on small communities so if they wipe out an entire town it won’t be in the thousands… Sounds crass but they do need to think of everything before the legal sleuths churn the courts. Also, the U.S. government is embarrassed by the speeds the world has compared to this country….so, the government is paying a part of the cost to run fiber…that is you and I are paying. Writers love to bloviate but they are saying that with the next upgrade to “internet2” it will usher in the next Revolution for unimaginable benefits to society….commerce will vastly change…Below is the status of the next version, this was as December 7th, 2018 John The Internet2 community: enabling the future Internet2 is a member-driven advanced technology community founded by the nation’s leading higher education institutions in 1996 <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.internet2.edu_about-2Dus_internet2-2Dcommunity-2Dtimeline_-231996&d=DwIFaQ&c=OAG1LQNACBDguGvBeNj18Swhr9TMTjS-x4O_KuapPgY&r=F2GFXrjLFqVo3VwvIlo_XYeEiRRjHv15rxcenz7A21woG2aFGcrzndoSsskxfmOs&m=DOcTQmRdJ3zLbIKaZl_p1183BcCPUkwgEyLnryJxUQc&s=-8uwOgbtR9S5oC-zMKHxkLNRC1nY8EDtfr_7AJMiWKQ&e=>.
