FWIW, after I upgraded to Catalina, there was one big folder of mostly junk missing from my Desktop [1]. I had to go and copy it by hand from a backup. Makes me wonder how much else got destroyed.
I'd advise not updating to Catalina until next year when it's successor gets announced. Bill
