Well I'll be a monkey's uncle.  After changing my typo (UGH) the task was
successfully registered in the OpenBD admin console.  But I did notice
something rather interesting in the URL column for this task:
http://cgi.server_name/index.cfm?endpoint=ImageProcessing&task=processImages

Looks as if the "server" parameter from the endpoint declaration was not
evaluated to whatever "cgi.server_name" represents.
