Additionally, you mentioned you are working with the BBB. The BBB features 
a PRU based PWM generator. For som example please take a look 
at https://github.com/machinekit/machinekit/tree/master/configs/ARM/BeagleBone

pwmgen is the SW PWM generator which is used on desktop platforms without 
PWM capable hardware.
