Java support is broken in Mac OS X 10.0.x. You will have to wait until
Mac OS X 10.1 in order to use sites which have Java applets.

Subject: Problems with Gartner site
I have been doing some work with OS X (10.0.4) recently, and just found
a
problem site. The Gartner Group web site <www.gartner.com> seems to have
some problems when viewed with IE 5.1. Sometimes the page simply does
not
load completely. However, the worst problem is trying to do searches,
which
involve both Javascript and Java. Frequently, IE will crash if a search
or
advanced search is performed. I've tried turning on Java exception
logging,
but nothing is recorded. Note that if you can perform one search
successfully, subsequent searches are okay, but if you quit and restart
IE,
the next few search attempts may cause IE to crash.
