Good one Scott!
Since this would not happen on Ontario, my guess is that there is a distinction about serving alcohol in a restaurant and in the same place after a certain hour.  (eg. 8pm> restaurant closed) where there is a law outlining the drinking age of persons in a club or public entertainment  place.    Example:  you can drink in a restaurant at age 16 until  8pm.  After 8pm you must be 18+ to drink in a public place.           Just my guess.    Donnie......

Subject: Puzzler of the week

This week's puzzler:

My son sat patiently in his restaurant seat and waited for service.  After awhile, an attractive looking young lady came over and asked if he would like something to drink.  He replied that he'd like a beer.  Being youthful in feature and appearance, she asks him to produce an ID.  The woman checks his ID and, with no problem, serves him his beer.

Four hours later, he's in the same chair and asks the same server for another beer.  To his surprise, the server again asks for his ID. Not a surprise.  She forgot who he was. He produces the same ID. The server tells him that unfortunately she cannot not serve him alcohol at this time, as it would be illegal for her to do so.

It has nothing to do with closing times or blood alcohol levels.

What's going on here?

Last week's puzzler:

A few months ago, we needed a part called a "map sensor" for a customer's Toyota Celica. It's a fairly expensive part, so I wanted to check with the customer before ordering one.

I called him five or six times, and there was no answer. I realized he had probably given me his home number, and he was at work.

Finally, late in the day he calls and asks, "Is my car done?"

I say, "No, it's not done." I explained that he needs this expensive part. And he tells me to go ahead and order it.

I call the dealer.  The phone rings and rings and rings, and I look and I notice it's 5:01 pm. All the dealerships are closed!

After five minutes of moaning and groaning, I had an inspiration.  And the next morning, I had my part.

How did I do it?

Last week's puzzler answer:

I called out to the west coast, where it was still only 2:00. I had them overnight the part, and it arrived the next morning!
