It very definitely is. However, I have been in Kentucky since early Tuesday morning, returned home early this afternoon, and have not knowingly sent any messages to the MacLean List, with or without attachments, and containing a virus.

I suspect that whatever e-mail it was (with attachment and virus) was probably sent to my home computer from the office in Burlington, where they insist on continuing to use Microsoft Outlook as their e-mail client. Personally I prefer Outlook Express (or Eudora) for my e-mail client. I may be wrong, but it seems to me that most viruses, worms, etc. seem to be spread by people using Microsoft Outlook as their e-mail client. About every two or three weeks, a virus comes in to the office in Burlington, and as is typical of them, they send themselves out to many or all of the e-mail addresses in the address book of the recipient. Since I was away, I can only guess that maybe it is one of those new types of virus that can self-propagate without the recipient having to open up the attachment that contains it.

I have already received notices from six different people telling me that they received that virus-infected e-mail from me. Five of the people I've heard from are not on the MacLean List.

Anyhow, I would like everyone to know that I have removed the offending virus off my computer, and cleaned all the infected files that were found.

Donnie, you mentioned that the culprit attachment was "on the President Bust email." I assume you meant to write "President Bush." In any case, I keep all my e-mails (received, sent and deleted) for a minimum of two months before removing them permanently from my computer. I just looked back over all of them, and I did not see any e-mail with an attachment that even looked suspicious. Therefore, I am completely baffled as to how that one would have got through my computer and out to God knows how many of the names in my address book.

I suppose there is some small consolation in knowing that at least the virus does not appear to completely destroy one's computer.

By the way, one of the people that wrote to me said that the virus is called W32.Magistr.39921@mm

Subject: virus alert.

Hi Folks.  Just want you to know a virus is in the attachment  sent by David L. Gomez. DO NOT open the attachment on the President Bust  email.
I hope you catch it in time.  My virus program gave me this warning and isolated the attachment in to my virus vault.   DONNIE>
