That's a Comm Slot I in the 6230CD, just as in my own 6300CD, meaning that
the ethernet card I put into it is a 10BaseT, not the faster 10/100BaseT
card that can go into the 6360. Reading between the lines, do you have an
ethernet card in the 6230CD which you'd like to move to the 6360? I do not
know whether that works, but you can buy a new comm slot card for the 6360.
As for using a Firewire-USB PCI card in the 6360, I'd recommend checking
that someone has done this for the type of work you have in mind and is
happy with it. If it does work, you may be disappointed with performance
speeds of any firewire devices due to slow bus speeds in the 6360.
There more information at:
http://www.lowendmac.com/ppc/6360.shtml and nearby pages describe your
6230.
The Farallon and Asante web sites should amplify on the the comm slot I and
II compatibilities and differences.
By the way, I have both my 6300 and a PowerBook G3/333 running off a cable
modem. The difference in performance between the two is dramatic. Both are
faster in browsing and downloading large files than with the old 56KB
modems, but the improvement for the 6300 is not worth mentioning. I suspect
performance with the 6360 will likewise be disappointing. At this point, I
would ask whether ethernet performance (and therefore browser/downloading)
with a comm slot II card in your 6360 will suffer by comparison with the PCI
ethernet card that's already in your machine. There may possibly be a
difference due to the bus architecture. There are folks on a couple other
lowendmac lists that can help with this.
