If you have Ethernet selected in the AppleTalk control panel and you select
the AppleShare ICON in Chooser you should see the hub / switch lights
flicker every few seconds, even if there is nothing else attached.  Either
your System software has wigged out requiring a reinstall or your hardware
has gone south.  On the machine in question open the Extension Manager cp
and select the "Mac OS x.x All" set, restart and try again.  It's possible
you have an extension conflict.
