Are there any DSL users with MSN as their ISP? My phone company (Qwest) just subscribed me to MSN Broadband because Qwest no longer provides ISP service. Everything still works except SMTP.
MSN Broadband's support site indicates their universal SMTP address as smtp.email.msn.com. Unfortunately, when using that with any of several POP clients (currently Outlook Express 5), I get: "5.7.3 Due to a recent security enhancement, changes to your email client configuration are required. Please go to http://supportservices.msn.com/us/smtptool/default.asp for complete information about the steps to make these quick changes. You will be una" So, according to the resulting information, you just have to select the checkbox in your SMTP settings for "Server requires secure password authentication," which, in OE5, can be set with or without specifying your login name and password too. Either way, I get: "Mail Error: The server doesn't support SMTP authentication." Unfortunately, the responses from MSN phone support amount to: "We don't support Macintosh. Goodbye." Has anyone out there been lucky enough to obtain this simple piece of info? And as a bonus question, any ideas for locating the correct DNS on this MSN WAN? I'm aware that I can switch to a Mac-friendly ISP, but that would cost significantly more than the current Qwest/MSN combo deal. Getting this to work 100% and saving a little would be wonderful.
