Have you ever noticed that it's almost always the AOL users who can't
subscribe, can't ask the listmom to subscribe them, and then post to the
list asking to be unsubscribed? Well, there's a reason for it. It's not a
good reason, but it explains the problem.

Putting URLs and email addresses between greater than and less than signs
- < and > - is a standard as old as the Web. With one exception, every
email client built since the advent of the Web that supports active links
will recognize <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> and properly place just the
"[EMAIL PROTECTED]" part in the To: field.

The exception, of course, is AOL. Why? Maybe they don't even know.
Anyhow, I've done some research on the subject, determined that every
email client tested works properly *except for AOL*, and added the
following section to the list FAQ.

Why don't the command addresses work properly?

Short answer: They do -- unless you're using America Online. For some
reason known only to AOL, their email client will read a link like
<mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> and paste everything between the "<" and
the ">" into the address field. Of course it doesn't work, despite the
fact this is an industry standard.

Sorry, AOL users, you'll just have to remove the "mailto:"; from the
address manually since America Online refuses to follow convention.

AOL users, please make a note of this. And if you have the time, please
vent your displeasure at AOL for not following the same system everyone
else uses.
