I'm using Web Sharing on one of the Macs on our LAN to serve web pages. I
have a SMC Barricade router set with an IP pool of xxx.2-xxx.40.

Currently I have the serving Mac set to use DHCP, and the router
continues to assign it the same IP address.

I've got questions...

Will the router ALWAYS assign the same IP address to a node? None of the
IP's for any of the machines on the LAN ever change even when the PC or
Mac is rebooted.

Web Sharing works fine when I point a browser to the IP address of the
host Mac. However, I thought I understood that a web or email server
should have a static IP address, one that is outside the range/pool that
the router will manage with DHCP. So I switched TCP/IP to Manual and
assigned the Mac the static xxx.45 IP address. When I did that, none of
the computers on the LAN could find the web pages.

I switched the host Mac back to DHCP in the TCP/IP control panel, the
router again assigned the Mac the IP of xxx.37, and we can see the web
pages again.

What don't I understand?

Am I correct in my understanding that a server on a LAN should have a
static IP address?

If so, why don't the other PC's see the web pages when pointing to that
IP address?
