Hi everyone Perhaps someone can help with this one.....
I have a 7300/180 which has a file copying problem. It is used on a small network (standard 10-Base-T) and crashes when copying sizeable files to or from any other machine. The ruse to date has been never to use the 7300 to initiate the copying but to go to one of the other machines and use that to copy to or from the 7300. The 7100 that I am using to write this post will happily send to or receive from the 7300 a gig of files one way without a hitch. Also I notice that performing the action on the 7300 always results is a slower data transfer than doing the same from the 7100. However, what is more annoying is that sometimes the 7300 crashes when copying a the contents of a CD to the internal hard drive or from an external drive to the internal hard drive. Thinking that the internal hard drive had seen better days I swapped it for a newer larger one (SCSI) - the problem got worse! Apps and utilities cannot be to blame as I can reproduce this problem with only a system (OS9.0.4) installed on a newly low level formatted hard drive. I have done all the usual tricks (rebuilding desktop, zapping PRAM, resetting the CUDA, zeroing and initializing hard disk and reinstalling system, tried OS9.1, tried TechTool Pro, etc.) but to no avail. I have exhausted all my ideas - anyone out there experienced this type of behaviour? Nick -- MacNetwork is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
