Get IPNetMonitor or something where you can check on the status of your DHCP lease. Often, you may have your lease end and not be able to renew it.
DHCP in MacOS (classic) has been a bit of a problem with cable modems. What kind of cable modem, and how many machines are you allowed to have behind it?
