I got some feedback at work today regarding getting web requests though my Qwest DSL modem and my Linksys 8 port DSL Router. The thought is that I need to set up NAT routing inside the Qwest DSL Modem (a external Cisco 675).
I found a web page that talks about this modem, and using NAT setting to let web traffic pass. It is a bit over my head, but I am re reading it, trying to make sence of it all.... It is here: http://www.users.qwest.net/~rlutton/ADSL/ Click on NAT Routing (on the left) to see the NAT stuff. When my Linksys DSL router looks back to my DSL modem, it sees a IP address of 10.0.0.1. This address is sent to it by my DSL modem. But if I telnet into my DSL modem, I can get the *real* dynamic IP address tossed to it by my ISP (mine changes about once every 24 hours). So, when using NAT, I am not sure how to route traffic. The above web page says in part, "Example: To map all ports on the 675 from the Global IP to local IP 10.0.0.1" set nat entry add 10.0.0.1 ************************** When I launch Web Sharing, it sees a IP address tossed to it from my Linksys router. The IP address is:192.168.1.101 So, would that mean that I would try something like: set nat entry add 192.168.1.101 *************************** I would hate to break my DSL modem; I am reading and asking questions before I try some stuff. Any NAT users here that can make sence of the above web page and point me in the correct direction? Thanks to all for the help so far; I am getting closer!! jack in portland oregon -- MacNetwork is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
