Hi there
Yes, it is the new Airport 2.0 (software/hardware) I don't have to have manually-assigned address on the private network, but I think that's what I should do. This setup uses a cable modem which has DHCP, and I read in the manual that you could not use DHCP internally if that were the case. So I am trying to set it up accordingly. the network consists of: 1. cable modem (dhcp) hooked into base station on WAN port 2. one PC with a NIC (wired into LAN port on base station) 3. One iMac and one ibook with airport cards Based on my experience with my own cable modem (dhcp) and my router, which I have successfully been using with manually assigned addresses on the private/internal network, I have tried to set up this wireless/wired netowrk to have manually assigned addresses as well. but when I used the iMac to configure the base station it all went well apparently, (configuring the base station to use DHCP to speak to the cable modem) but when I went to assign IPs manually to the iMac and other machines they lost the network. All machines could surf online if they were told to use DHCP and to me that seems wrong. Because the manual said i shouldn't use DHCP internally if the cable modem uses DHCP... weird... It all worked out, the computers could surf online, even though I thought the set up was wrong. And when I left I found out later that the netowrk went down (not sure why) I will go and check it out tomorrow. just thought you all might have some ideas... I'll tinker with again Airport. It's more complicated to set up than my router/cable modem :( -- Mat X *************************** email: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> *************************** http://www.sfu.ca/~mathieum *************************** -- MacNetwork is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
