Agreed.  A hardwired network should be cheaper.  If it were just the
G4 and the iBook, I'd say get a couple of airport cards and run the
G4 as the base station.  Adding the Performa complicates the matter
substantially.  In fact, I'm not sure there's a wireless solution that
will work with a non-PCI Performa (probably not cheaply, in any event).

It is fairly simple to restrict access to an Airport network, either by
IP address or keyed encryption or both.  However, many people don't bother.

No one delivers 100% of peak bandwidth: not 802.11b (Airport), not ethernet.

As far as internet access is concerned, you will be hard pressed to get
enough bandwidth to saturate 11 Mb/s, let alone 100 Mb/s.  If you're
going to be sharing large files, then that's another matter.

I had more problems setting up my router than my airport, but YMMV.
