As long as the software supports it (I have not used any usb wireless adapters). On the ibook with built in airport, you can create a "point to point" network. Its different then an access point while yet in some ways does the same thing. Its mainly meant for connecting two laptops together wirelessly where there isn't any ap's around (for example meet a buddy at an expo). With an AP its the central hub, asking others to "come here", while with the other its simply amongst yourselves. In mac os x, click on the wireless/airport icon on the menubar, and select create network. Pick a name, channel and wep (if any). Then on the other, punch in/select from the pull down menu the name (and any wep keys) and your set. If you want a more permanent setup then try using the airport software base station (now internet sharing in mac os x).
