Adding additional hops between you and your destination does slow you down. But typically, the difference is only a few milliseconds (ms), nothing that you'd really "feel". Please provide a more detailed description. Can't tell if you're in a traffic jam or you put it in the wrong gear... :) What is your exact configuration; hardware and software? When you say your "speed on the Internet", what exactly do you mean? "Pages loads much more slowly" - do you mean it's slower to translate domain names? Slower to fetch the page elements?
