I don't think only Macs use the 169.xxx address series. (Oops, just 
looked at my router, it is actually 192.169.1.1). I believe that is the 
series set by the TCP/IP standard for local networks. It is the default 
address for my Linksys router, and sub addresses for the network are of 
the pattern: 192.168.1.xxx.
