I have a Mac LCIII that I picked up a while back, put in an Asante ethernet card a little later, and just now am trying to get it online. When I go to Control Panels > MacTCP > LocalTalk > More , I get the panel to change IP and DNS settings, but the "Protected" checkbox is checked. How to I remove the protection? Thanks.
ug. Stretching my dusty memory here...
Trash "MacTCP Prep" from the Preferences folder. Reboot. See if that fixes it.
If it doesn't,,, you'll have to trash both the Prep and MacTCP control panel, reboot, then reinstall the MacTCP control panel from the original OS install media. It's an ancient cdev, that stores many of its settings in the control panel's file itself.
