I would like to thank everyone for helping me with my Webserver troubles. I ended up just using port 81. supposedly bellsouth does not block port 80, but 81 works, so I will stick with it.
That works. The standard alternative port is 8080, FWIW. But Bellsouth may have blocked that also. :\
Are there any utilities to monitor who has or is accessing my webserver?
I missed the first part of your thread, so I donno which server software you're using... It probably has some sort of web log capablity. And there are utilities available that can crunch standard logs, for more intelligent/statistical evaluation.
or a page counter.
There are a lot of cgi-based counter scripts available. Check out the WDVL (below) for resources.
What are some good books, etc. to learn quick html?
hum. HTML how-to's are so plentiful... You can really get lost in good book stores these days, check them all out! FWIW, I really like stuff authored by Dave Raggett. He's one of the original W3C architects. His books are very easy to read, very understandable, etc. Here's a few reference links... Between the info on these sites plus the books they talk about, you'll be steeped in HTML, XML, cgi, perl, etc...
