I got onto this list a few days ago, and as it doesn't seem to be too busy, I'll just throw in a handful of questions... I am quite experienced with linux, hpux and that other os-family, but I have hardly touched a mac since I was setting up some classics (and was in love with a fx) at the university far to many years ago....
I recently picked up a couple of 5400s on a local flea market (100 NOK ~ 13 USD) One ting I know I can use them for, is as x-termials towards the other linux (sparc and i386) machines on my home network, but it could also be interesting to try to get them running on the net with macos. One of them has v 8.0, the other 8.1. So I have a few questions: 1) What kind of upgrades are avilable for the OS? ( I Know OSX is no option..) 2) are there any / which PCI nics are compatible with macos 8? 3) What kind of software do I need to get them connected to my network? I am presently running NFS, cups and samba, are there any (free) mac clients for those services, or should I preferably run another set of services for the macs? 4) xservers / telnet client, what is available? -- Morten Sickel http://sickel.net/ Drøbak, Norway -- MacNetwork is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
