Hello All,

>From BBR:

[The SpeedStream 5100b SBC uses is Crippled and running Custom Firmware per
SBC's Request. It is completely different from a Retail 5100 Router, PPPoE
Modem or Bridge series.]

I'm wondering what routers are *known* (through first-hand experience,
please) to be compatible with SBC's "crippled" 5100b for home networking?
I'm leery of picking up a router, only to find that it won't work with the
5100b because of SBC's firmware (or whatever); I can't afford to make any
mistakes. And no, I'm not about to drop $200 on SBC's home networking
package. Not when the router they're trying to sell me is worth more than
the boxes it's going to be connected to. I don't have a machine in the house
newer than circa 1999; it's the "Red Green" of computing here...

I'm on a Macintosh (9600/OS 9...okay, stop laughing!) and am looking to hook
up my 9600 box and (eventually) my G3 to this.

The only router I've been told of so far that meets the criteria is the
D-Link DI-604 Ethernet Broadband Router (4-Port). I'd be grateful for any
other possibilities you guys could recommend. Last, but not least, I'm
trying to go with a wired router for reasons of cost and security.

Oh, and just out of curiosity:

[Routers with the default IP of 192.168.0.1 (example Netgear) conflict with
the 5100B default of 192.168.0.1. The router has to be changed, since the
5100B's cannot be changed.]

What makes of routers have the aforementioned IP as the default? Or more to
the point: which ones do not?

Best,

James Fraser
