Hello Bill,

AFAIK you don't need any special sw or anything to use one of these modems
with a Nubus or PCI Mac. And never heard of any flash-updater for any of
these. Talking about OS 7.1 <-> 9.2.2, you only need the sw with comes with
your OS.
Having Fast_ADSL, I normally don't need a dial-in modem but still have 2 in
use. And only for one reason: To type and send a SMS, for being nearly 62, I
hate typing textmessages on these bloody small, simple and complicated in
use key-boards of a cellphone. And I discovered a service, here in the
Netherlands, which allows me to send a SMS, typing on a Mac keyboard!!!
(instead of my cp) and using my GVT modem and all these comfort for only ±
16% of the cost of a SMS per cp!!!
AND in the very rare case of having a ADSL-interruption, I always can
connect via my dial-in modems. I have a AB24 connected to a Beige G3/266 DT,
running 9.2.2 and 10.2.8 and a AB12 connected to a PM 8500/120, running 8.6
and 9.1. Both work flawlessly.
Be aware: If you don't reach a "56K v.90"-connection, it's for 99% sure not
a problem of your Mac-OS-sw-modem-line but of the phone-line-quality
provided by your telephone-company!
IIRC, I must have some special sw (fax-poss.??) on floppies. I'll see if I
can find them (and if they are still useable) in case you'll be interested
in. Just let me know. And watch and let me know how many MB your mailbox
will accept.

HTH,

Jo
