A while ago, I came across a reference to a program that would enable
you to have FTP-like access to your Mac over the Internet. Does
anybody remember what program this might have been, or know of a
similar program.

I currently have a OS9 machine set up as a web server, but it's a long
way away (geographically) so I need an easy way to upload files to it.
I may eventaully "downgrade" this webserver to an older Mac, that
would probably be System 7, so if said program were compatible with
it, that would be excellent.

NetPresenz is one such program.

But you can also just use Personal AppleShare. Turn on File Sharing in the File Sharing cp and click on the box to make it available via TCP/IP. If the machine is behind a firewall or NAT router you will need to make port 548 available to the Internet. Don't forget to set the Machine Name, Owner Name and Password.
