The mDNS broadcast is link-local, but link-local IPv4 _addresses_ (169.*) are only used in the rare situations where there’s no router available — like if you plug two computers into each other with an Ethernet cable, or plug several devices into a switch that has no upstream connection. In general, mDNS just advertises the regular IP address of the network interface. Maybe that came from a NAT, maybe it’s internet-routable; it doesn’t care (and I don’t think it can even tell, at least not easily.) —Jens
