Why wait for Jaguar? Buy OS X now and get 75 free Kodak prints
By Michael Flaminio, Insanely Great Mac
June 7th 2002

Apple kicked off a new Kodak prints promotion for customers purchasing Mac OS X.

Buy Mac OS X and you''ll receive 75 free Kodak prints. The prints are issued through
Apple''s iPhoto software, which is only available on Mac OS X. In addition to the 75
prints, users new to the Kodak service automatically receive 10 free prints.

The promotion runs from June 7 through September 2, 2002. Customers must purchase a
retail copy of Mac OS X (10.1.3 - M8545LL/B) to qualify. The print sizes for the
promotion are standard 4x6 and must be ordered through Apple''s iPhoto software. Also
worth noting, the prints will expire 60 days after credited. To obtain the 75
freebies, customers will need to mail in a UPC label from the OS X box, receipt,
rebate form and wait 6-8 weeks for an email.

For complete details, please visit Apple''s Web site.

Analysis:

Looks like Apple may be clearing out some OS X 10.1 boxes to make room for X
10.Jaguar. With Jaguar due later this summer, the question of upgrade fees come to
mind. Apple has been mum on the subject, but Mac users may have to pony up some cash
for the privilege to run Jaguar. Speculation of an upgrade fee is in part based on
Apple''s coy naming of the next release, in addition to the fact that Xserve customers
have been told to expect an upgrade charge for the server variant of the Jaguar. If
there is such a fee, and depending on what said fee may be, the value of these 75 free
prints may fade later this summer.
