US companies say they are ready to boost e-mail marketing spending
A survey released by DoubleClick Inc last week shows that 61 percent of companies in
the US expect to increase 2002 budgets for e-mail marketing.
The survey -- designed to track trends and acceptance of both offline and online
marketing tools in the United States -- was conducted among 190 marketing
professionals at companies that had more than US$1 million total in marketing budgets
during 2001.
Although 23 percent of respondents expect 2002 marketing budgets to decline from 2001
levels, 27 percent expect them to stay the same and 50 percent expect them to increase.
Those surveyed said they expect a 17 percent increase in e-mail marketing, with
smaller increases for TV, direct mail, etc. campaigns. DoubleClick''s numbers also
state that e-mail marketing is a highly rated tool for achieving marketing objectives.
Analysis: Something has to give here. Haven''t we already exceeded what the
infrastructure can safely handle, let alone users'' tolerance?
