By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
July 1st 2002

Check here for some of the latest updates and new releases

Umax will support its current professional-grade scanners under Apples new OS 10.X
operating environment. The models to be included are the PowerLook III, PowerLook
2100XL, PowerLook 1100 and PowerLook 3000. Umax will not support consumer-level (Astra
models, or older consumer-level) scanners.

The IRIS Business Card Reader software, paired with appropriate hardware, can
automatically catalog business cards in either bitmap or text formats. The Mac OS
X-compatible Business Card Reader suite can perform OCR functions to parse information
from any business card, and store it in a database.

Canon has posted CanoScan v6.5 which brings OS X support to a few of its scanners:
The plug-in is compatible with the iMac, G3 and G4 systems running Mac OS 10.1.3 or
greater, with built in USB ports. The plug-in is for Adobe Photoshop 7.0 for Mac OS X
and the CanoScan N670U & N676U scanners.

Ulead Photo Explorer 2.0 available for OS X
Ulead''s Photo Explorer 2.0 is a media management tool for acquiring, organizing, and
sharing image, video and other media files. It can also be used to manage digitally
captured images, including the ability to adjust hue, saturation, brightness and
contrast, and color balance. This $25 application is available for Classic and OS X.
