Apple aims to make the net pay
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac

Insiders say the comany plans to charge $100 per year for .Mac services
Think Secret reports that Apple intends to charge $100 per year for
soon-to-be-announced .Mac services. Various sources report that .Mac is more or less a
rebranding of the company''s iTools services.
Think Secret states that some Apple employees feel the subscription fee plan is a
mistake. "Over the course of the past week, we''ve been hearing concern and negative
comments from some Apple employees. A number of employees feel that the move will be a
big mistake, and doubt that .Mac will attract as many subscribers as Apple is
expecting."
In all fairness, no one has the slightest clue what .Mac entails until Steven P. tells
us tomorrow. Also, we won''t know until tomorrow whether or not currently free iTools
services will continue to offered without cost.
Analysis: It''s hard to imagine a combination of remote disk space, preformatted
homepage designs, etc. that warrants an annual subscription fee of $100. Steve''s
stunned into silence before and I welcome the sensation once again, but this just
doesn''t seem right.
