MCE Intros DVD/CDRW Combo Upgrade for 550/667MHz PowerBooks

Combo drives for the combo driveless.
PowerBook G4 owner-drivers who missed Apple''s deadline for the $299 Combo drive
upgrade programme have a second bite at the cherry.
MCE are now offering the same upgrade at a slightly higher price. A number of early
550/667MHz PowerBooks shipped with either an internal CDRW or DVD. Previously, MCE
offered the drive for Rev.A 400 and 500MHz PowerBook G4s only. The internal components
in the Rev.A and Rev.B TiBooks are slightly different; as a result, Apple did not
offer Combo drives to Rev.A owners.
MCE''s upgrade offers the 8/8/8/24 drive at $329 and it comes with a 1-year warranty.
Because of the complexity of the operation, owners need to ship their PowerBook to MCE
or an authorized MCE repair center. The company also says the drive is bootable and
has been certified by Dantz for use with Retrospect.
If you want to retain your old drive, the price is $379 ($299 with trade in). The old
drive will be shipped back to you.
