UK iMac price cut; US to follow?
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
August 2nd 2002

As the dollar and costs fall (and sales tank), Apple is cutting prices

Both Macworld UK and MacUser UK are reporting that Apple has cut the price of its
low-end LCD iMac model by the equivilent of $100. Additionally, MacNN and other
US-centric Mac new sites are reporting that third-party Apple resellers have already
cut the price of the low-end consumer desktop to $1,299 -- its price at introduction
in January of this year.

However, a quick check on prices at the Apple Store reveals that the company has yet
to reduce the price if indeed that is its intention.

Analysis: That Apple is "reducing" the price of the entry-level iMac is no surprise.
That it has taken this long is. Moreover, it''s somewhat surprising that they
apparently aren''t reducing the price below that set when it was announced back in
January. Component costs have fallen and competition is brutal. Realistically, I
believe Apple needs to reduce pricing 10 to 30 percent across the board. What''s your
take?
