HP Releases Deskjet driver 2.0 for OS X
By Remy Davison, Insanely Great Mac
August 26th 2002
HP delivers on consumer/prosumer inkjets, but business software drivers lag.
HP quietly released the second revision of its DeskJet driver for OS X over the
weekend, just as Jaguar sales took off on Friday and Saturday.
The new OS X drivers appear to have improved functionality for the DeskJets, although
for certain printers not all functions may be available, as they are under OS 9.
HP says the drivers offer improved performance and speed under OS X. In the
documentation, HP does recommend a restart after installing the drivers.
Analysis: All very well and good, but where are OfficeJet and Photosmart drivers for
OS X? As far as I can tell, few OfficeJets support Mac OS, let along OS X, and the
latest driver for OfficeJet officially supports only up to 10.1.4.
