Apple to Drop ''Low-End'' 14.1" iBook
By Remy Davison, Insanely Great Mac
September 10th 2002

A reorganization may be on the way for the iBook line.

A story at irumors suggests that Apple quietly dropped the ''low-end'' 14.1" iBook
today. At time of writing, the AppleStore was still offering a CD-ROM-only version of
the iBook 14.1", as a ''delete option'' (a $150 price reduction), in place of the
Combo DVD/CDRW drive.

The article states that 12.1" 600MHz DVD-ROM model replaces the low-end 14.1" for
$1,249. This model is indeed available as a ''custom-built'' specification at the
AppleStore.

Oddly, irumors also suggests that the high-end 14.1" iBook may be replaced, possibly
by a 13.3" model.

Analysis: Curiouser and curiouser. Cheaper 13.3" LCDs to appear, maybe? They''d just
fit into a 12.1" iBook''s chassis. Make of this what you will.
