BMW Gets the BMW of Directors

Ridley Scott to EP on new film/TV venture.
Ridley Scott, director of Apple''s famous ''1984'' commercial, which introduced the
first Macintosh, will executive-produce films for BMW''s DirecTV channel.
BMW has bought a number of 30-second spots on ESPN and Discovery, as well as over 20
other channels, and will use them as a conduit to push viewers over to its own film
channel.
DirecTV has a market reach of 11.5 million homes, according to an article at Adage.
BMWFilms will produce content, with big-name directors, musicians and actors starring.
BMW cars are featured heavily in the films, which feature James Brown and Don
Cheadle.
The article cites a high-income demographic as the reason behind BMW''s interest in
the film/satellite TV venture. High-income males are the target market for its Z4
roadster.
Analusis: I wonder how many Macs we''ll see product placed in these films. Notably,
BMWW does release Mac screensavers, which says something about the taste of the buyers
it hopes to appeal to.
