Steve leaves Gap board
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
October 4th 2002

Part of the tangled nature of Apple's own board begins to straighten out

The Gap has announced that Steve "no salary" Jobs has left the company's "to focus on
other priorities"

"On behalf of the Board, I'd like to thank Steve for his contributions," chairman
Donald G. Fisher said.

Penny Hughes, a former Coca-Cola executive in Europe with more than 14 years of
international brand management experience, is joining the company's board of
directors. Ms. Hughes was an executive with Coca-Cola for 10 years in the UK, and held
extensive operational and strategic responsibilities in the company's international
division. She served as Coca-Cola's President of UK and Ireland operations before
leaving the company in 1994.

Editor's note: It's probably no coincidence that a moves by Ellison and Jobs in recent
days come as Business Week criticized the mothership's board for its chumminess and
relative weakness.
