IDG, Apple step back from "DefCon 4"
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
October 21st 2002
MacCentral reports that 'cooler heads have prevailed' but only says that the two sides
are talking again
MacCentral reports that Apple and IDG are trying to talk their differences vis-a-vis
the 2004 change of venues for the East Coast iteration of Macworld. Apparently, "some
of their issues" have been worked, but other sticking points remained unresolved.
"IDG World Expo and Apple began discussions regarding Apple's role in upcoming
Macworld Conference & Expo events," IDG World Expo said in a statement to MacCentral.
"On Monday, October 21, Apple and IDG World Expo confirmed that Apple will indeed
participate in Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco in January 2003 as
originally planned, with a presence on the show floor as well as the keynote
presentation from Steve Jobs. IDG World Expo and Apple have also agreed to hold
ongoing discussions about Apple's role in upcoming East Coast Macworld events. IDG
World Expo will issue an update when more details become available."
As we reported last week, the Macworld brouhaha began last Thursday with the
announcement that Macworld Expo would move from New York to Boston and Apple's retort
that it would "re-evaluate" its participation
Over the weekend, we reported that IDG upped the ante by stating that Apple may be
barred from participating in Macworld San Francisco.
IDG has said the East coast shows will go on with or without Apple.
Editor's note: How this series of farcical events was allowed occur is beyond me. The
whole fiasco is reminiscent of stupidity foisted on the world by North Korea. It's
just silly how grown ups can behave sometimes.
