Questions about the company and its flagship application's future have been answered
Hotsprings Inc has acquired the assets of Hotline Communications, including the rights
to all its intellectual properties such as Hotline Connect, Hotline Client, Hotline
Server and Hotline Tracker.
Hotsprings Inc consists of some ex-employees, ex and new shareholders, and fans of
Hotline Communications -- all die-hard users of the software and its avid supporters
and communities that sprung up in the last five years.
Hotline allows users to chat, transfer files and read news on an
Internet/intranet-like service. However, Hotline Connect Client should not be confused
with a client that performs FTP, IRC, or NNTP functions, as these are not supported by
Hotline. Version 1.8 introduced (2001) full QuickTime support, bug fixes, improved
client stability, and better handling of network tasks. It also added the ability to
upload folders.
The current version (1.8.5) can be downloaded here.
Editor's note: Good to see at least one file-trading company/app apparently on the
verge of making a new go of it. It's even better that the Hotsprings is dominated by
fans. Hotline is perhaps the oldest service still available.
