Dude! Where's My Apple Sticker?
By Remy Davison, Insanely Great Mac
October 22nd 2002
You have to bleed in six colors.
Bizarre theft takes many forms. But Apple stickers?
That's one of the many stories Wired tells of the famous colored rainbow. A writer's
car was broken into purely to steal the Apple sticker. Not the CDs. The sticker.
Why? Was the thief a frustrated Windows user looking for instant cool? Someone who
couldn't afford a Mac? (which is one way of getting new stickers).
The Wired story also reports on an Australian user who, instead of releasing
'shareware' or 'postcardware', the latter a popular thing among freeware developers,
chose 'stickerware' instead. People sent him Apple stickers, often with a personal
message. He didn't get many. But a few were appreciative enough to put an Apple logo
in an envelope.
People even put Apple stickers on their Sony Vaios. Maybe to show that they haven't
sold out. Completely.
Confession: I have one on my cell phone. But do people put Dell or Microsoft stickers
(do they even exist outside corporate HQ?) on their cars, Palms or pets? Methinks not.
what would be the embarrassment quotient on that?
