Apple Loss Cuts into Workforce
By Remy Davison, Insanely Great Mac
October 22nd 2002

Cuts this time no longer involve only Christmas casuals.

Apple's recent earnings announcement which saw the company report a $45 million loss
(including one-time charges) has also resulted in the ax falling on some 60 employees.

ThinkSecret reports that it has spoken with 10 of the 60, who were employed across the
US, and worked in divisions such as Apple Education and the Development Executive
team.

One former employee ThinkSecret spoke with said that Apple is attempting to disguise
its layoffs as part of the seasonal contracting of workers, according to peaks and
troughs of demand. However, the former employee claims that this time the workers were
full-timers, on middle-level and managerial salaries, ranging from $45,000 to $90,000.

One employee said to ThinkSecret that the Development Executive team was heavily
involved with the 'switchers' campaign, encouraging Windows users to make the jump.

Apple reportedly told retrenched employees that demand was weak and that this expected
to continue well into 2003.
