Dell selling the iPod

This news comes as Apple formerly announces a deal with Target to sell their
industry-leading mp3 player
MacCentral reports that Dell is selling the Windoze version of the Apple's
gold-standard mp3 player, the iPod.
"Yep, Dell is reselling iPods," Apple said in a statement provided to MacCentral. "We
are delighted to offer our 5GB, 10GB and 20GB iPods for Windows through Dell's direct
retail channel. iPod has been a big success to date, and we would like to make it even
bigger."
Automated and manual searches of Dell's online store yield no mention of the iPod. For
example, the page listing third-party mp3 players available from Dell doesn't include
Apple's �ber player.
Apple, Target announce deal
Earlier today Apple has announced that the iPod will be available at all Target stores
nationwide starting this week. All 1,148 Target stores will offer the 10GB iPod for
Mac and Windows.
"We're thrilled that Target will significantly expand the availability of Apple's
award-winning iPod to even more customers," said Tim Cook, executive vice president,
worldwide sales and operations, Apple. "Apple has placed an operable iPod on display
in each of Target's 1,148 stores, so every Target customer can use and listen to an
iPod before they buy."
Apple's announcement confirms the rumor IGM reported last week.
Good news for the mothership. Good news for the platform. And, hopefully, good news
for prices.
Editor's note: Great products make strange bedfellows, and Dell and Apple together
couldn't be a stranger, more unlikely pairing.
