The ABCs of computing
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
November 7th 2002
Apple has added an A to Z glossary to its Knowledge Base website
For the curious, needy and just-plain bored, Apple's Knowledge Base now includes a
glossary. The Apple Glossary offers definitions for terms common and relatively
unknown but nevertheless an integral of the Mac universe.
For example, did you that an attribute can be defined as:
In Entity-Relationship modeling, an identifiable characteristic of an entity. For
example, lastName can be an attribute of an Employee entity. An attribute typically
corresponds to a column in a database table. A column-In a relational database, is the
dimension of a table that holds values for a particular attribute. For example, a
table that contains employee records might have a column titled LAST_NAME that
contains the values for each employee's last name.
(With that knowledge now securely lodged in my brain, I will have to reassess the
girls at the office. It will certainly help to sort the "wheat from the chaff" so to
speak)
The Apple Glossary is a set of free floating pages that have to be referenced to be
seen. This means that there isn't a single entry-point or webpage to access them,
which is unfortunate.
