AppleCare program extended

Apple has unveiled an improved version of its service and support agreement that can
be purchased with a new Macintosh -- AppleCare with several enhancements for both
mobile and desktop users.
AppleCare Protection Plan now includes global repair for portable computers, including
coverage of Apple displays purchased with a G4 PowerBook. PowerMac owners can benefit
from onsite service.
Desktop and portable Macs ship with 90 days of phone support and a one year hardware
warranty out of the box. AppleCare Protection Plan extends this to three years of
support.
Editor's note: This is good news and is more reflective of the premium pricing (30
percent margins) Apple exacts. If this were matched with a complimentary one-year .Mac
subscription extendable to three years at a reduced price, we'd have even more reason
to celebrate.
