Cocoa eFax 1.0.0 Released
By Remy Davison, Insanely Great Mac
November 25th 2002
Capable, inexpensive fax-ware for OS X.
Ben Mackin has released the final version of Cocoa eFax, which supports OS X 10.2,
faxing image files and receiving faxes.
Cocoa eFax is exceptionally easy to use. Launch it, choose a file to send and enter
the fax number. Hit send. Done.
eFax also includes a fax browser for viewing and printing received faxes. It can send
eps, gif, jpg, tiff files, as well as any pdf. Ben notes that as any file can be
converted to a pdf in OS X, Cocoa eFax can fax anything. You can make an individual
coversheet for a fax, or select a cover sheet template.
eFax also supports scheduling, multiple files, and saves received faxes as tiff files.
Modem support is not a problem: eFax auto-detects any attached modem (built-in, USB,
Bluetooth).
Ben notes a couple of bugs with the incorrect dpi resolution of received faxes, but
this is the only bug when receiving faxes. The only downside to this is lower quality.
This will be fixed in a future release.
Cocoa eFax is shareware and costs $10. The unregistered version can send only 5 faxes,
but will lreceive an unlimited number of docments. There is a downloadable version for
Jaguar, and one for OS X 10.1.x.
